Rocky Volleyball Bested by the Bulldogs in Three Sets

BILLINGS, Mont. - Rocky Volleyball fell at home to Montana Western in straight sets on Thursday evening.

A pair of freshman Battlin' Bears, Malia Opeta and Olivia Fauth, made their debuts in the third set, combining for five kills.

How It Happened

The Bulldogs jumped out to a 12-4 lead early in the first set, utilizing a 10-2 run. Rocky fought back into the mix, as Josie West tallied three kills and Sadie Meier mixed in a service ace to claw back within four, but a 9-2 run by Montana Western sealed the first set 25-13.

While both teams played a clean second set for the most part, but four service aces from the Bulldogs and two service errors from Rocky hindered the Battlin' Bears, falling 25-18.

Another fast start helped propel Montana Western in the third set, as Rocky faced a 16-4 deficit before stringing together five straight points, sparked by a block from Feline Mulder and a kill from Olivia Fauth. Later in the set, a kill from Malia Opeta would spark four straight points for Rocky, capped off by a service ace from Zoey Albert, but their early deficit would be too much to overcome, falling 25-19 to conclude the match.
