Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

#18 Rocky Women’s Basketball Falls to Providence in Great Falls

GREAT FALLS, Mont.- A cold shooting night saw Rocky's women suffer their first conference defeat since early December.

How It Happened

Brenna Linse helped fire up the Battlin' Bear offense early, hitting her first two shots from the field and capitalized an and-one to give the Battlin' Bears a slim two-point advantage. Neither team found much success from the field through the final five minutes of the first quarter, but Rocky limited second-chance opportunities for the Argos, led by seven first-quarter rebounds from Isabelle Heggem, as the game remained tied at 12-12 entering the second quarter.

The Rocky offense struggled out of the gate in the second quarter, being held to just one made field goal through the first five minutes, giving way to an eight-point lead for Providence. Paige Wasson would help ignite the Battlin' Bears before half, as six straight points led to an 8-0 run over the final three minutes of the half, tying the contest before a buzzer-beating foul call would give the Argos a trip to the free throw line, making one of two for a one-point lead at halftime.

Both teams went back and forth to start in the third quarter, as a pair of Paige Wasson free throws gave the Battlin' Bears a one point advantage with four minutes to go in the third quarter. The Argos would close the quarter strong with a 10-1 run, holding the Battlin' Bears without a field goal for the final five minutes of the quarter.

Providence would match every offensive run Rocky could muster in the fourth, as a late cold spell for the Battlin' Bears would lead to their first conference defeat since December 5th.

Notable Statistics

Paige Wasson led the way with a team-high 19 points, making four threes while also adding five rebounds and two blocks. Brenna Linse totaled 17 points, seven rebounds, and six assists, while Isabelle Heggem recorded 14 rebounds and two blocks.

The Battlin' Bears shot 37.3% from the field and 35% from three, Rocky outrebounded the Argos 38-34, but 15 Battlin' Bear turnovers turned into 20 points off of turnovers for Providence.

Four Argos finished in double figures, led by 19 points and eight rebounds from Brooke Dial.
