Wasson’s Scoring Surge Leads #18 Rocky Women’s Basketball Past Skylights 81-74

HAVRE, Mont.- Paige Wasson's 32-points, as well as a team effort of 22 offensive rebounds, led #18 Rocky Women's Basketball to a win over (RV) MSU-Northern Saturday evening. 

Rocky's 22 offensive rebounds set a new season-high as a team, while sophomore Paige Wasson recorded her third 30+ point performance of the season. 

How It Happened

The first quarter featured a three-point barrage from both teams, combining for 11 made three-pointers on just 19 attempts. Paige Wasson set the pace early, hitting all four of her three-point attempts for 12 points in the first quarter, setting the Battlin' Bears up with a 28-25 lead heading into the second quarter. 

Offensive momentum continued into the second quarter, with neither team creating a lead larger than four. Jordan Labrador-Hallett would sink a jumper in the final seconds to tie the game at 44-44 going into halftime. 

The Battlin' Bears would finally be the first to create separation in the final five minutes of the third quarter, closing the quarter on a 15-0 run, capped off by an offensive rebound and put back by Paige Wasson to end the quarter with a 12-point advantage. 

A 7-0 run early in the fourth quarter would help solidify Rocky's lead, extending a lead as large as 17 points on their way to a road victory over (RV) MSU-Northern. 

Notable Statistics

Paige Wasson finished with a game-high 32 points, drilling five-of-seven from three-point range and sinking all five of her free throw attempts. Wasson also recorded nine rebounds, two assists, and a steal. Brenna Linse tallied a 17-point, 11-rebound double-double, which featured seven offensive rebounds. Isabelle Heggem also finished in double-figures, scoring 13 and adding nine rebounds. 

The Battlin' Bears shot 46.9% from the field and 33.3% from three. Rocky outrebounded the Skylights 45-23, thanks to 22 offensive rebounds. 

Ciera Agasiva and Taya Trottier each contributed 18 points apiece for the Skylights.
