Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

#18 Rocky Women’s Basketball Falls in Helena 61-52

HELENA, Mont.- The Battlin' Bears and Fighting Saints split the season series, as Rocky fell by nine points on the road on Friday evening.

How It Happened

A slow start for both sides offensively, as a pair of free throws from Brenna Linse at the 7:30 mark signified the first points of the contest. Linse would score four of Rocky's first seven points to help the Battlin' Bears jump to a 7-2 early lead. The Battlin' Bear offense would go quiet for the final five minutes of the first quarter, leading Carroll to a 9-0 run to wrap up the first quarter, as Rocky trailed 16-9.

Four turnovers and a 33% field-goal percentage in the second quarter for the Battlin' Bears helped the Fighting Saints extend a lead as large as 17 before halftime.

The Battlin' Bear offense would show life to open the second half. After scoring just nine and 10 points in the first two quarters, Rocky would total 13 points in the opening five minutes of the second half to trim their deficit back to single digits. Carroll would have the answer, however, with an 11-3 run through the final five minutes, again extending the Rocky deficit back to double figures.

While Rocky would hold Carroll College without a field goal for the opening five minutes of the fourth quarter, the Battlin' Bears would never cut their deficit below seven points in the fourth quarter, as Rocky would split the season series with Carroll College after both home teams won their respective matchup.

Notable Statistics

Paige Wasson led the Battlin' Bears in scoring with 14 points, including six-of-eight from the field and two of four from three-point range. Tailyn Black also finished in double figures with 10, Brenna Linse added nine, and Angelina Cavanaugh totaled eight points.

The Battlin' Bears shot 35.6% from the field and 29.2% from three. Rocky outrebounded Carroll 34-30 overall, but totaled 19 turnovers, leading to 24 points off turnovers for the Saints.

Three Saints finished in double-figures, including 11 points from both Kenzie Allen and Megan Karstetter.
