Bowman’s Late Three Lifts (RV) Rocky Men’s Basketball Over (RV) Bellevue 71-68

BILLINGS, Mont.- Drew Bowman hit the clinching three-pointer with seven seconds remaining to lead Rocky past Bellevue 71-68 on Friday evening.

The Battlin' Bears used a strong offensive effort in the second half to rally to a victory, handing the Bruins their first conference defeat this season.

How It Happened

Bellevue grabbed the first lead of the contest, sinking six of their first eight shots from the field to jump to a 13-6 lead through the first five minutes of the contest. Rocky's defense helped even up the contest, forcing three turnovers to aid a seven-point swing as a Drew Bowman three-pointer tied the game at 20-20 with nine minutes remaining in the first half. The Bruins would sink their final four shots from the field in the first half, piling a 10-2 run to bring an eight-point lead into the halftime break.

With the Bruins maintaining their lead through the first eight minutes of the half, Rocky would swing momentum at the 12-minute mark, as the Battlin' Bears would hit seven of their nine shots over a four-minute stretch, tying the contest at 57-57 following a three-pointer from Mekhi Jourdan. Following a back-and-forth slugfest, Rocky would hold Bellevue scoreless for nearly four minutes of game time, sparking a 7-0 run and a three-point lead entering the final two minutes. Jaden Phillips would break the Bruins' scoreless drought with a three-pointer to tie the contest with a minute to play. After both teams sank one of two free throw attempts, Rocky would have the final possession of the contest. After a Rocky runner would miss, Carter McCoy would deflect an offensive rebound back to the perimeter, finding the hands of Drew Bowman, who would fire the go-ahead three-pointer with seven seconds remaining. Bellevue's response would be no good, clinching the Battlin' Bear victory at home.
