Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

(RV) Rocky Men’s Basketball Jumps Ahead Late to Defeat (RV) Carroll College 86-82

HELENA, Mont.- An and-one layup from Carter McCoy with over two minutes to go gave Rocky a lead they would never give back in Helena, defeating Carroll College by four points.

Rocky continues a torrid stretch, winning their seventh straight contest, and extended their unbeaten streak on the road this season to 8-0. The defeat of Carroll College snapped a seven-game losing streak in the matchup series and marked the first regular-season victory over the Saints since January 2022.

How It Happened

The first half was a two-man show offensively for the Battlin' Bears, as Royce Robinson and Omari Nesbit combined for 28 of Rocky's 37 first-half points. Nesbit and Robinson started early, combining for the first eight points to give the Rocky men an early 8-3 lead. Carroll College began to pick up momentum with a 12-2 run after making five consecutive shots from the field. Omari Nesbit would help pick Rocky back up, scoring 11 points in five minutes, capitalizing the run with a fastbreak dunk to give the Battlin' Bears a 32-30 lead. Carroll closed the half strong, making five of their last six shots of the half to take a seven-point lead into the locker room.

After Sherman Royal III opened up the second half with a three-pointer, the first 14 minutes of the second half were evenly matched, with the Fighting Saints maintaining a lead that fluctuated between three and eight points. Mekhi Jourdan would sink a pair of jumpers, and Sherman Royal III would drop in a layup in transition to give Rocky their first lead of the second half with 3:43 to go in the contest.

Carroll's Isaiah Crane would earn back-to-back trips to the free throw line to give the Saints a two-point lead with three minutes to play. Carter McCoy would sink an and-one layup on the following possession to give the Battlin' Bears a lead they would never give back, as McCoy would score five of his 13 points in the final three minutes. Rocky's defense would hold the Fighting Saints to just one of four from the field in the final two minutes, while Omari Nesbit would sink four straight crucial free throws to seal the Battlin' Bear win on the road.
