#23 Rocky Women’s Basketball Secures Season Sweep of Montana Western in 79-67

BILLINGS, Mont.- Rocky Women's Basketball secured their ninth consecutive home victory and secured a season-sweep of Montana Western in a 79-67 victory on Friday.

The Battlin' Bears sank 11 three-pointers in the win, their sixth game of the season with ten or more three-pointers made. Their 18 forced turnovers were the most in a single game this season.  

How It Happened

Brenna Linse fueled the Battlin' Bear offense early on, scoring the first six points for Rocky to open the contest. A pair of Rocky turnovers lent momentum to the Bulldogs, as they rattled off an 8-2 run to take a four-point lead. Paige Wasson sank a pair of free throws to close the quarter, trimming Rocky's deficit to two, 15-13. 

The Battlin' Bear defense gave them life in the second quarter, holding the Bulldogs scoreless for over five minutes en route to a 12-0 run to take a seven-point lead. Tailyn Black added five points over the final three minutes of the half to build a seven-point halftime lead, 34-27. 

Montana Western quickly erased Rocky's halftime lead, scoring on their first three possessions of the second half to tie the game at 34-34. The Battlin' Bears responded accordingly with a 10-2 run to regain their lead midway through the third quarter. Both teams traded baskets throughout the final minutes of the quarter, but Rocky still hung onto a six-point lead heading into the fourth quarter. 

The Battlin' Bears made their run midway through the fourth quarter, sinking four threes in a three-minute stretch to extend their lead into double-figures, icing their ninth consecutive home victory and securing a season-sweep of Montana Western. 

Notable Statistics

Paige Wasson led all scorers with 28 points, adding nine rebounds and three steals. Brenna Linse added an efficient 19 points, sinking eight of ten shots from the field, while also pulling down six rebounds. Angelina Cavanaugh totaled 12 points, draining four of her five three-point attempts. Isabelle Heggem led all players with 13 rebounds and six assists. 

The Battlin' Bears shot 44.4% from the field and 40.7% from three, draining 11 from downtown. Rocky outrebounded the Bulldogs 34-24 overall and forced 18 turnovers, turning those into 20 points off of Montana Western Turnovers. 

Bailee Sayler totaled 20 points to lead the Bulldogs in defeat.
