#17 Rocky Women Dominate the Second Half En Route to a 63-37 Victory Over Valley City State

BILLINGS, Mont.- The Battlin' Bears outscored Valley City 38-13 in the second half to cruise to a 26-point victory in the Fortin Education Center on Friday evening.

Second-chance opportunities were crucial, as the Rocky women snagged 16 offensive rebounds on the evening, with a 14-0 edge in second-chance points in the win.

How It Happened

Valley City took the first swing of the evening, jumping out to an 8-1 lead through the first four minutes of play. Rocky responded with a 9-0 run to snag a two-point lead before the Vikings scored to end the quarter, tying the game at 10-10.

Midway through the second quarter, Brenna Linse and Paige Wasson would combine for another 9-0 run, stretching Rocky's lead out to six points. Valley City had its answer to close the half with a 7-2 run over the final three minutes to trim Rocky's lead to just one at halftime.

A coast-to-coast layup by Paige Wasson would be the lone score for either team over the first three and a half minutes of the half, but Rocky's offense would erupt soonafter. A three-pointer from Tailyn Black would ignite a 15-2 run for the Battlin' Bears, creating a double-digit lead heading into the fourth quarter.

A pair of three-pointers would helped lead the Battlin' Bears on a 17-5 run to open up the fourth quarter, solidifying a significant lead and cementing the Rocky victory at home.

Notable Statistics

Brenna Linse totaled a game-high 22 points, along with 11 rebounds, her second double-double of the season. Paige Wasson added 19 points and eight rebounds, while Isabelle Heggem recorded her tenth double-double of the season, finishing the night with 12 points, 15 rebounds, and three blocks.

A below-average offensive night for Rocky's standards saw the Battlin' Bears shoot 34.8% from the field and 15.4% from three-point range, but defense and rebounding led the charge, as Rocky outrebounded the Vikings 49-29 while holding their opponent to just 37 points, a season-best for the Battlin' Bear defense.

Ellie Braaten finished the contest with 15 points and four rebounds to lead Valley City State.
