Top-Seeded Rocky Men’s Basketball Advances to the Semifinals With 69-60 Win Over Mayville State

BUTTE, Mont.- Omari Nesbit scored 19 of his game-high 27 points in the second half to help Rocky fend off a late Mayville State run and advance to Sunday's semifinals in the Frontier Conference Tournament.

Nothing comes easy in postseason play, as the Battlin' Bears saw a 24-point lead be trimmed to single digits late in the second half, but clutch free-throw shooting down the stretch helped seal a Rocky victory in the quarterfinal round.

How It Happened

Royce Robinson led the charge earlier, scoring six early points, giving the Battlin' Bears a 15-9 lead. Omari Nesbit would take the reins to follow, leading a four-minute stretch where the Rocky men sank six-of-seven shots from the field to compile a 13-4 run and an eleven-point advantage. The Comets would respond with a quick 7-0 run, forcing a Battlin' Bear timeout. Rocky would convert on their final three shots from the field in the half, taking an eight-point lead into the halftime break.

Omari Nesbit took control of the contest for the opening seven minutes of the half, piling on 11 points in that span to push the Battlin' Bears up 24 points following a 20-4 run to start the half. The Battlin' Bears went ice cold from both ends, as the Comets found themselves back in the contest thanks to a 17-1 run, holding Rocky without a field goal for over seven minutes of game time to trim their deficit to eight. Royce Robinson finally broke the dry spell with a three-pointer to extend the Battlin' Bear lead back to double-figures. Omari Nesbit again helped seal the deal for the Rocky men in a tight close, sinking all six of his free throw attempts in the final two minutes and putting the cherry on top with a breakaway jam to advance the Battlin' Bears into the semifinals.
