#23 Rocky Women’s Basketball Defeats Bellevue 77-66 on the Road

BELLEVUE, Neb.- Three Battlin' Bears finished with 20+ points, including a career-high 21 points from Angelina Cavanaugh, leading #23 Rocky Women's Basketball to a road victory over Bellevue.

Rocky recorded 21 offensive rebounds in the winning effort, their second-most of the season. The Battlin' Bear victory improves their conference record to 13-5 with four games remaining in the regular season.

How It Happened

A slow start for Rocky saw them make just one of their first seven shots from the field, giving Bellevue an early 8-3 advantage. The Battlin' Bears gained momentum using their defensive effort, holding the Bruins scoreless over the final five minutes of the quarter, paving the way for a 10-0 run to close the quarter to take a 13-8 lead into the second quarter.

With both teams trading baskets throughout the second quarter, it would be another late surge by the Battlin' Bears that made the difference, closing the first half on a 7-1 run to extend an eight-point lead at the halftime break.

The Bruins would come out of the gates red hot in the second half, sinking a pair of threes en route to scoring eight points unanswered to tie the game at 28-28. Offenses clicked on all cylinders for both sides, combining for 57 points in the third quarter and ten made three pointers. After Bellevue cut their deficit to two points with under three minutes to play, Rocky would finish the quarter on a 14-5 run, including a buzzer-beating three-pointer from Angelina Cavanaugh to give the Battlin' Bears a nine-point lead.

While Bellevue would trim Rocky's lead down to four points with five minutes remaining, again, Rocky would finish a quarter strong, only allowing four points in the final five minutes of the contest to seal a double-digit victory on the road.
