Rocky Volleyball Splits Opening Day of the Halo Classic

SAN ANTONIO, Texas- Rocky Volleyball opened its 2026 campaign by splitting day one of the Halo Classic, highlighted by a dominant three-set sweep over the University of Saint Francis.

The 3-0 victory also marked a major milestone for first-year Head Coach Lauren Revering, securing her first career win at the helm.

Recap: Rocky - 3, Saint Francis - 0

The Battlin' Bears exploded out of the gates, mounting a massive 9-0 run to build a commanding 21-7 lead before cruising to a 25-11 opening-set victory. The offense clicked immediately, hitting .297 as a unit, sparked by three early kills from senior Ella Kincaid.

Set two began as a back-and-forth affair. Sophomore Olivia Fauth notched her fourth kill of the frame to give Rocky a slim 12-11 edge. Just like the first set, Rocky caught fire down the stretch. Trailing by one, they unleashed a pivotal 9-1 run, fueled by four kills from junior Sadie Meier, to flip the script and take the second set, 25-20. Rocky's attack was very efficient, hitting .343 with 15 total kills and just three attacking errors.

The third set saw adversity for Rocky, trailing 15-9 following back-to-back kills from the Cougars. From then on, however, the Battlin' Bears dominated the third set, putting together an 8-2 run to force a tie and a Saint Francis timeout, as Ella Kincaid continued the momentum following the timeout with another kill to give Rocky an 18-17 lead. While the teams traded points until a 20-20 tie, the Battlin' Bears would rattle off five straight points to secure the third set and the match.

Sadie Meier led the Battlin' Bears with 10 kills with a .375 hitting percentage, while Ella Kincaid added eight kills (.471) and Olivia Fauth added seven (.238). Kristyn Mentink totaled a team-high 10 assists, with freshman Rylee McMillan adding eight. Lindsay Lawrence led the team with 11 digs in the victory.

In total, the Battlin' Bears swung at a .288 hitting percentage, totaling 41 kills with only nine attack errors.

Recap: Rocky - 1, Campbellsville - 3

After riding the high of their opening sweep, the Bears found themselves trailing 21-17 late in the first set against Campbellsville. A well-timed timeout sparked a rally, however, as Olivia Fauth and Kaitlyn Wood delivered crucial kills, and Wood added a clutch block to knot the score at 21. Although the Tigers briefly reclaimed the lead, Rocky stormed back with four consecutive points to steal the first set, 25-22.

Campbellsville responded well in the second frame, hitting a blistering .375 as a team to even the match at 1-1 with a 25-17 win.

Set three was a nail-biter where neither squad could build a lead larger than three points. The Tigers pushed to set point at 24-22, but a clutch block by Wood and a timely kill from Rachel Whyte kept Rocky alive, tying the score at 24. Unfortunately for the Battlin' Bears, Campbellsville managed back-to-back kills to edge out the set, 26-24.

The fourth set started with another back-and-forth matchup, as three straight points from the Battlin' Bears were capped off by a kill from Olivia Fauth to tie the set at 11-11. The Tigers would make a match-deciding run to follow, however, as a 7-2 run extended a lead that Rocky would never overcome, falling in four sets.

Kaitlyn Wood led the Battlin' Bears with 11 kills, swinging an impressive .556 hitting percentage. Olivia Fauth added ten kills, Rylee McMillan tallied 14 assists, and Zoey Albert finished with a team-high 14 digs.
