Davis’ Brace Leads Rocky Women to 3-3 Draw Against (RV) Hastings

HASTINGS, Neb.- Senior Charlize Davis netted both the opening and closing goals on Saturday evening, guiding the Battlin' Bears to a hard-fought 3-3 draw against (RV) Hastings College in the regular season opener.

In a physical battle, both squads traded blows and converted first-half penalty kicks to go into the break tied 2-2, setting up a dramatic finish in Rocky's regular-season debut.

How it Happened
Charlize Davis wasted no time making her presence felt, striking first in the 11th minute. After Morgan Hayes forced a save off the Bronco goalkeeper, Davis pounced on the rebound and buried it into the net to give the Battlin' Bears an early 1-0 advantage.

Hastings leveled the match in the 28th minute with a header off a corner kick. Just five minutes later, the Broncos drew a foul in the box and converted the resulting penalty kick high into the top right corner to claim a 2-1 lead.

Charlize Davis sparked the response for Rocky in the 39th minute by drawing a foul inside the box. Sophomore Gracie Clarkson stepped up to the spot and delivered on her penalty kick opportunity, lifting a precise shot just beneath the crossbar to bring the Battlin' Bears even heading into halftime.

Hastings reclaimed the lead in the 67th minute, breaking through to make it 3-2. With Rocky's back against the wall, the team turned to Davis once more. The Billings product intercepted an errant pass from the Hastings backline in the 85th minute and unleashed a low, driving strike from 25 yards out that snuck past the keeper to secure the 3-3 draw.

Notable Statistics
Rocky outshot Hastings 16-12 overall, though the Broncos held a narrow 9-7 edge in shots on goal. Davis anchored the attack, playing all 90 minutes at forward while leading all players with six shot attempts (four on goal). Goalkeeper Matea Vernon finished with six saves on the evening, while Clarkson's successful penalty kick marked her first collegiate goal.
