Game Recap: Women's Volleyball |

Rocky Volleyball Defeated in Straight Sets by Dakota State

BILLINGS, Mont.- Rocky Volleyball fell to Dakota State in three sets on Friday evening at home.

How it Happened

Neither team managed more than a three-point lead throughout a tightly contested opening set. With the back-and-forth battle deadlocked at 21-21, Dakota State called a timeout and responded with a crucial 4-1 run to claim the opener, 25-22.

The Battlin' Bears struggled to find offensive momentum in the second set, hitting just .021 as a team with nine attack errors. Despite those struggles, Rocky pulled within a single point at 18-17, following a block from Ella Kincaid and Kaitlyn Wood. Dakota State had a quick answer, however, and rattled off seven straight points to take the second set 25-17.

Rocky generated early momentum in the third set, as Josie West and Amelia Kisiel each recorded a pair of kills to jump out to an 8-5 advantage. The Trojans countered with a 5-0 surge to take a 20-16 advantage, reclaiming their first lead since the opening point. Kaitlyn Wood would help fuel a late comeback effort after back-to-back kills to cut the deficit to one point, but Dakota State would eventually get a pair of late kills to seal a three-set win on Rocky's home floor.

Notable Statistics

Sadie Meier led Rocky's attack efforts with nine kills, while Amelia Kisiel and Kaitlyn Wood (.368 hitting percentage) would add eight apiece. Zoey Albert recorded a team-high 18 digs, while Kristyn Mentink added 18 assists and six digs.

Dakota State outhit the Battlin' Bears .193 to .111 and controlled the net with 10 total blocks. The Trojans were led by ten kills from Tristyn Maras and six total blocks from Macey Wathen.
