On the Road Again
The Battlin' Bears continue their non-division schedule with a road trip to Caldwell, Idaho, to take on No. 4-ranked College of Idaho. The game marks the first true road game of the season for Rocky, who finished 2-3 on the road in 2025. 

Familiar Faces Emerge
Returning Battlin' Bears flooded the stat sheet in Rocky's season opener, including several players making their first career starts. Redshirt sophomore Jhett Schwahn made his first start and appearance at quarterback, rushing for a touchdown and passing for 175 yards. Harlowton High School product Bergen Mysse paced the team with five receptions for 53 yards, after entering the season with just one career catch, while redshirt senior Jae'sean Pete added a productive 29 rushing yards in his debut after three seasons with the program. Defensively, redshirt freshmen Aaron Alvarez and Jayson Cady recorded seven total tackles apiece, with both adding a tackle for loss in their first collegiate starts. Redshirt sophomore Cade Lamb added his first career sack. On special teams, 2025 First Team All-Conference punter Jordan Legg took over placekicking duties to open the season, converting a 34-yard field goal and his lone PAT attempt.

Beyond the Results
Rocky's defense impressed overall in its first outing of the season. Despite giving up 23 points, the Battlin' Bears held the Marauders to just 79 rushing yards on 30 attempts while tallying seven tackles for loss across seven different players. University of Idaho transfer Wayne Queen recorded a sack and a forced fumble, while redshirt junior DeAndre Reed disrupted the passing game with a pair of pass breakups.

Scouting the Yotes 
College of Idaho secured a 37-7 victory in its Week Zero matchup against Eastern Oregon to start the season 1-0. A season ago, the Yotes were Frontier Conference West Division Champions with an overall record of 11-2 after advancing to the NAIA Championship Series Semifinals. The Battlin' Bears will look to become the first team to defeat College of Idaho in Caldwell since Carroll College did so in October 2024, as the Yotes have won seven straight at home. Rocky head coach Randy Bandelow led that 2024 Carroll defense, logging six sacks to defeat COI 43-29.

The Yotes feature a dominant ground game, rushing for over 300 yards in their opening victory against Eastern Oregon. In 2025, COI averaged 217.3 rushing yards per game, ranking eighth in the NAIA. Dual-threat quarterback Caden Young leads the offense with over 1,400 career rushing yards and 22 touchdowns while sharing the backfield with 2025 First Team All-Conference running back Rylie Byington, who tallied 125 yards and a touchdown last week.

On defense, the Yotes return three First Team All-Conference honorees from a season ago: defensive lineman Tucker French, linebacker Elton Saole-Su'e, and defensive back Tanner Steele. In 2025, the Yotes held opponents to just 17.7 points per game and ranked ninth in the NAIA by allowing only 81.8 rushing yards per game. The College of Idaho defense forced two turnovers in its Week Zero victory and limited Eastern Oregon to 2.8 yards per rushing attempt and 178 total offensive yards.
