Rocky Women’s Basketball Falls to No. 19 Vanguard 47-69

EL CAJON, Calif., Nov. 12, 2022- No. 25 ranked Rocky Women's Basketball stumbled in the second half and couldn't keep pace with the No. 19 ranked Vanguard University Lions, falling 47-69.

The Battlin' Bears kept pace in the first half, only trailing by six going into the break, but shooting struggles and a six point third quarter for Rocky was too much to overcome against a very talented Vanguard team. 

Vanguard was led by a 25 point, six assist performance from Halle Si'i. Lauren Baumgartner also pitched in 15 points, six rebounds, and four assists, while All-American Melissa Akullu finished with seven points, five rebounds, and four steals. The Lions shot 51.1 % from the field (24-47) and 50% from three point range (10-20)

The Battlin' Bears were led by 11 points and two steals from Kloie Thatcher, Dominique Stephens finished with 10 points and five rebounds, and Ky Buell added five assists and two steals.

Rocky (2-3) will get two weeks off until they take on Dickinson State University in a double header on November 25th and 26th before they enter conference play.
