Rocky Men’s Basketball Falls to No. 12 Montana Tech 59-82 to Open Frontier Conference Play

BUTTE, Mont. Dec. 1, 2022- It was not the Battlin' Bears night in Butte, as Rocky Men's Basketball fell to No. 12 ranked Montana Tech 59-82 Thursday evening.

Neither team was able to find their stroke from three point range to start, as both teams shot 1-11 from three in the first half. The tale of Tech's 19 point lead going into halftime was 10 first half Battlin' Bears turnovers, leading to extra shot opportunities for the Orediggers.

While Rocky cleaned up the turnovers in the second half, Montana Tech crashed the glass, grabbing 10 second half offensive rebounds on their way to a 23 point victory.

Rocky was led by 13 points, four rebounds and four assists from Jesse Owens, while Kael Robinson finished with 10 points and five rebounds. Rocky shot 32.7 % (18-55) from the field and 26.1% (6-23) from three point range, while having a night to forget from the foul line, shooting a combined 60.7% (17-28) from the charity stripe while turning the ball over 16 times.

Tech was led by 18 points, seven rebounds and four steals from Caleb Bellach, while Hayden Diekhans tallied 13 points and nine rebounds. The Orediggers shot 41.1% (30-73) from the field and 19 % (4-21) from three point range. Tech shot 81.8% (18-22) from the free throw line while only turning the ball over four times in the victory.

The Battlin' Bears (5-3, 0-1 conf.) will host University of Providence on Saturday in the Fortin Education Center beginning at 4:00pm.
