The Battlin' Bears began their season on a high note, defeating Ave Maria University 3-0 on Wendy's Field. Freshman Tor Swann broke out early on a breakaway for his first collegiate goal. Angel Mange repeated the scoring effort just minutes later. A free kick from Lorenzo Klamler turned into a bad clear and an own goal from Ave Maria, giving the Battlin' Bears the 3-0 lead they would hold until the final. Goalkeeper Stefan Schenk saved both shots he faced in the shutout effort.
