#15 Rocky Men’s Basketball Defeats Argos 74-64

BILLINGS, Mont.- Four Battlin' Bears scored in double figures, led by 22 points from Jesse Owens as the Rocky men earned their first conference victory of the season.

The Rocky men put together a strong first half in their first game at home in almost two months. After both teams traded baskets for the first five minutes of play, the Battlin' Bears put together an 11-2 run, capitalized by an and-one by Jesse Owens to jump out to a nine-point lead in the first 10 minutes of action. Rocky's offense started firing to close out the first half, shooting 50% from the field as a team in the final 10 minutes as Elliott Brooks cashed in a three-pointer before the halftime buzzer to give Rocky an 18-point lead going into halftime.

The Argos hung around in the second half, as Davien Harris-Williams and Jaylin Reed hit threes on consecutive Argo possessions to cut their deficit to 12 at the 13:09 mark. After Elliott Brooks responded with a three-pointer of his own, Providence turned good defense into easy baskets, forcing three straight Rocky turnovers on their way to a 7-0 run that cut a deficit that was once as much as 20 points down to eight.

Luca Brooks flipped the momentum for the Battlin' Bears as he jumped into the passing lane to grab a steal and get an easy layup, followed by a three-pointer two possessions later to extend the lead back to double digits. After a pair of free throws by Providence's Jaylin Reed, the Battlin' Bears would control the next six minutes of the game, holding the Argos to 2-12 shooting from the field as a 13-5 run would give Rocky the lead they needed to secure a home victory.

Jesse Owens led the way with 22 points on 9-16 shooting from the field and 3-4 from three, turning the ball over just once in the win. Maxim Stephens (14), Elliott Brooks (13), and Luca Brooks (11) all finished in double figures. Luca Brooks also added a game-high three steals. Kael Robinson finished with eight points and a game-high 14 rebounds.

Jake Olsen led the Argos with 15 points and nine rebounds, including four offensive rebounds.

The Battlin' Bears (10-5) look to continue their momentum as they host MSU-Northern on Saturday afternoon. Tip-off at 4:00 pm in the Fortin Education Center.
