#12 Rocky Women’s Basketball Falls Late to MSU-Northern

BILLINGS, Mont.- Ky Oliver scored a career-high 30 points to lead a shorthanded Battlin' Bears group, but the Skylights grabbed a last-second victory in the Fortin Education Center on Saturday.

The Skylights got off to a blazing start offensively, shooting 12-17 from the field in the first quarter to jump out to a 27-14 lead. The Battlin' Bears flipped the script in the second quarter, outscoring Northern 24-10. Tailyn Black pulled a three in transition to give Rocky their first lead of the game with a minute and a half to go in the half at 36-34. After Northern's Karina Cabrera answered with a three of her own to snag the lead back, Gracee Lekvold went coast-to-coast off the inbounds for a layup to give Rocky a lead going into halftime.

Ky Oliver came out of the gates firing in the third quarter, sinking consecutive three-pointers to extend Rocky's lead early in the half. Oliver had 11 points in the quarter as Rocky extended their lead to seven points going into the fourth quarter.

The Skylights wouldn't go down quietly, as Rachel Van Blaricom knocked in a three plus a foul to start the quarter, sparking a 9-1 run to give Northern the lead back early in the quarter. The Rocky women fired right back, as Ky Oliver and Angie Cavanaugh hit threes on back-to-back possessions to put the Battlin' Bears back in front.

Rachel Van Blaricom made a pair of free throws inside of a minute to cut Rocky's lead to two and Ryley Kehr dropped in a layup to tie the game at 74-74 inside the final 30 seconds. Brenna Linse drew a foul with six seconds to go and went 1-of-2 from the free throw line to give Rocky a one-point lead. After a Skylight timeout, Shyan Krass worked her way into the paint and got the go-ahead bucket to fall to secure the upset.

Ky Oliver tallied a career-high 30 points, hitting six three-pointers and also adding four assists on the day. Gracee Lekvold added 18 points and seven assists.

The Skylights were led by 27 points from Ryley Kehr. Taya Trottier added 13 points, eight rebounds, and nine assists.

The Rocky women (11-4) turn to the final game of their home stand on Thursday, January 18th when they host #5 Carroll College—tip-off at 5:00 pm (MT) in the Fortin Education Center.
