Rocky Men’s Basketball Shoots Past the University of Providence 96-84

GREAT FALLS, Mont.- The Battlin' Bears flexed their offensive firepower on Thursday, shooting 60% from the field as a team as they raced past the Argos 96-84. 

The Rocky men put on an offensive clinic in the first half, shooting 64.9% from the field to jump out to a 15-point lead at the break. Jesse Owens led the way with 19 first-half points. 

Luca Brooks and Maxim Stephens kept the offensive momentum going to open up the second half, combining for a 16-6 run over the first five minutes of the half to extend the lead to as large as 21 points. When it seemed like the Battlin' Bears couldn't maintain their offensive output, they continued to pile up points. Every bit of offensive momentum by the Argos would be quickly matched by the Rocky men on Thursday, as the Battlin' Bears would not let the lead drop below 15 points until the final minute of play. 

After shooting just under 65% from the field in the first half, the Rocky men rallied to shoot 56.3% from the field in the second half, totaling a season-high 60.9% from the field in the game. It's the highest team shooting percentage in a single game for the Battlin' Bears since an 88-55 victory over Montana Tech on January 19th, 2019, where Rocky shot 61% from the field. 

Maxim Stephens led the way with 25 points and 10 rebounds, adding four offensive rebounds and shooting 10-14 from the field. Jesse Owens totaled 23 points and 11 assists, the most assists in a single game by a Battlin' Bears since Latrelle Franklin had 11 assists in a win over Dickinson State on November 9th, 2017. It is also Owens' second consecutive game with double-digit assists. Luca Brooks added 14 points, all of which came in the second half, while Kael Robinson tallied 12 points and six rebounds. 

Jaylin Reed scored 22 points to lead the Argos in the loss. 

The Rocky Men (11-8) will host No. 8 ranked Montana Tech on Saturday afternoon, tip-off at 4:00 pm (MT) in the Fortin Education Center.
