Rocky Ski Places Well in Season’s First Meet in Jackson Hole

JACKSON HOLE, Wyo.- Rocky Ski got their long-awaited 2023-24 debut as they competed in the Bryce Astle Elite at Jackson Hole on Monday and Tuesday.

Monday's action featured two Giant Slalom runs for both men and women. On the men's side, freshman Fredrik Straume led the way in his first meet as a Battlin' Bear, finishing 14th overall with a total time of 1:32.85. William Mjelde followed tied for 23rd with a total time of 1:34.26, with Adam Wrenkler rounding out the top 30 overall with a time of 1:35.89.

On the women's side, Hilde Iren Sato raced her way to a fifth-place finish with a time of 1:38.71. Synne Kvinlog was the next Battlin' Bear across the line with a total time of 1:41.69. Kvinlog was one of just 12 individuals to complete a run under 50 seconds. Freshman Reese Harman finished 54th with a total time of 1:57.75.

Tuesday was another two-run Giant Slalom competition for both men's and women's. The Rocky men were led by William Mjelde in 10th place finish with a total time of 1:38.43. Felix Besser finished in 46th place with a total time of 1:45.58 as the other Battlin' Bear with a final score.

In the women's race, Bergitte Varne and Synne Kvinlog headlined with top-10 finishes. Both athletes tied for 7th place overall with a combined time of 1:45.60. Reese Harman finished 44th overall with a combined time of 2:02.37.

The Western Regional Tech Elite FIS scheduled for Thursday and Friday has been postponed due to inclement weather. The Battlin' Bears will be back in action for their first conference meet at the USCSA Grand Teton/Rocky Meet held at Winter Park, Colorado starting on Sunday, January 14th.
