Rocky Volleyball Falls to No. 2 Northwestern in Three Sets

BUTTE, Mont.- Rocky Volleyball concludes the Big Sky Challenge with a 2-1 record after a three-set defeat to No. 2-ranked Northwestern College. 

How it Happened
The Battlin' Bears struggled with their attacks throughout Saturday's match against the 2023 NAIA National Championship Runner-Ups. They were held to just a -.022 hitting percentage, fueled by 11 total blocks by the Raiders. 

The first set went back and forth, as a kill by Makenna Bushman tied the match at 18-18. The Raiders found momentum and ran away with the first set with six consecutive points. 

A block by Bella Bryan and Kaitlyn Wood kept the second set at 17-16 in favor of Northwestern, but another late push by the Raiders gave them a second-set win. 

Bella Bryan helped fuel a charge during the third set with a pair of kills to give the Battlin' Bears a 15-12 lead. Northwestern again surged late in the set, but a service ace from Makenna Bushman helped keep the set close at 20-21. Ultimately, the No. 2 ranked Raiders were able to pull away for a three-set sweep to conclude the match. 

Makenna Bushman finished the day with eight kills, 13 digs, and two service aces. Kaitlyn Wood tallied four blocks, Blythe Sealey added 19 assists and 10 digs, and Brooke Ark had 17 digs.

The Battlin' Bears travel to Joliet, Illinois, to compete in the St. Francis Big Dogs Classic on August 23rd and 24th.
