Rocky Volleyball Drops Tight Four-Set Match Against #13 Montana Western

DILLON, Mont.— The Battlin' Bears held strong with the No. 13-ranked Bulldogs but ultimately fell in four sets in Dillon on Thursday evening.

How it Happened

The first set was back and forth between the Battlin' Bears and the Bulldogs. Neither team had a substantial edge in the stat sheet, backed up by no lead larger than three for most of the set. No. 13-ranked Montana Western was the team to grab momentum at the right time, edging ahead after a late run to take the first set 25-21.

The second set played very similarly, as a kill from Kaitlyn Van Well spiked a kill for the Bulldogs, giving Montana Western the largest lead by either team in the second set, 19-16. However, the duo of Ella Kincaid and Gabriella Panzetta would rally the Rocky women back, as the two combined for three kills and four blocks in the set's final stretch to bring the Battlin' Bears to a 26-24 second set victory.

Both teams struggled with their attack in the third set, combining for 19 attack errors. Makenna Bushman helped rally the Battlin' Bears with three consecutive kills to tie the set at 25-25, but Montana Western would strike twice to swipe a third set.

The fourth set was the only set in which one team rose above the other, as Montana Western turned in a team hitting percentage of .364, running away with the final set to hand Rocky their fourth consecutive loss.

Makenna Bushman led Rocky with 14 kills, 20 digs, and two service aces, while Kaitlyn Wood tallied 12 on a .550 hitting percentage. Blythe Sealey finished the match with 39 assists, Brooke Ark finished with 28 digs, and Gabriella Panzetta had six total blocks.

The Battlin' Bears totaled 26 attack errors on the night with a hitting percentage of .120 and nine service errors.
