Rocky Men’s XC Wins the Yellowjacket/Battlin’ Bear XC Open; Women Finish Runner-Up

BILLINGS, Mont.- The Rocky men finished four of their scorers inside the top ten overall, while Jayden Woodland finished just a second shy of her school record to lead a trio of top-ten finishes for the Rocky women. 

In the women's 6K, Jayden Woodland led the charge, finishing third overall with a time of 22:37.2. She finished just a second shy of her own school record, which she recorded at Amend Park in 2023. Hannah Geisen (7th place) and Maya Pearcy (8th place) followed with times of 23:12.3 and 23:15.6, respectively. Both times for Geisen and Pearcy were personal bests. 

Kallyn Wilkins finished just outside of the top ten, placing 11th overall with a time of 23:42.0. Rylie Schoenfeld rounded out the Rocky competitors and scorers, placing 35th overall with a time of 24:53.54.

The Battlin' Bear women placed second overall with a team score of 63. 

NCAA Division II competitor Chadron State took home the team title with 50 total points, while University of Providence runner Kelsey Stensland-Plymale took individual honors with a time of 22:14.8. 

In the men's 8K, Justin Glass led the charge for Rocky, running a personal best 24:53.7 to take third overall. His time ranks 17th in program history, joining fellow senior teammate Corbyn Svec as the only active Battlin' Bears to rank in the top-20 in program history for the 8K. Sophomore John Spinti also ran a personal best, finishing fourth overall with a time of 25:05.8. 

Corbyn Svec finished shortly behind in 6th place with a time of 25:12.2, and Zach Zwiesler followed in 8th place with a time of 25:40.7. Matthew Conrad rounded out the Rocky scorers with an 11th-place finish, clocking in a time of 25:40.7. 

Other Rocky competitors included Caleb Tomac (18th place; 26:11.2), Henry Cooke (52nd place; 27:55.0), Garrett Sedlock (54th place; 27:58.6), Connor Chase (59th place; 28:08.0), and Eniah Boseman (75th place; 29:33.0). Sedlock and Cooke both secured personal bests. 

Rocky's men, the #17-ranked team in the NAIA, cruised to a team victory after totaling just 29 team points. They bested NCAA Division II competitor and runner-ups South Dakota Mines, who followed with a team score of 55. 

Dickinson State's Caleb Sarsland earned the individual victory, finishing with a time of 24:45.2. 

Up Next

Rocky XC will face their largest and most competitive field of the season on October 25th, where they'll travel to Grand Rapids, Michigan, to compete in the NAIA Great Lakes Challenge.
