Rocky Men’s Basketball Holds Off Late Run to Defeat Northwest University 81-75

CALDWELL, Idaho.- Omari Nesbit scored nine of his game-high 21 points in the final two minutes of the game, leading the Rocky men past Northwest University 81-75.

The Battlin' Bears shot just under 50% from the field and over 84% from the free-throw line in the victory, going 2-0 at the Taco Bell Shootout in Caldwell.

How It Happened

The Battlin' Bears opened the game firing on offense, hitting five of their first six shots to combine for an early 11-3 run through the first five minutes of the game. After the Eagles bounced back to take a four-point lead, Kyle Jones heated up with a 7-0 run by himself to take Rocky's lead back entering the final five minutes of the first half, eventually holding to a six-point halftime lead.

After the Battlin' Bears scored on their first two possessions of the second half, Northwest University would erase Rocky's lead with an 11-2 run. With the game tied 40-40 with just over 15 minutes to play, the Battlin' Bear offense would heat up again, with seven different Battlin' Bears scoring to contribute to a 20-9 run that extended Rocky's lead to double-figures, the largest of the game with less than 10 minutes to play.

With five minutes to play, Northwest would begin a comeback effort, making four straight shots from the field to compile an 11-4 run, eventually cutting their deficit to two points with two minutes remaining.

After sinking the go-ahead basket against No. 1-ranked College of Idaho the night before, Omari Nesbit came ready to go for crunch time for the Battlin' Bears. The senior scored nine straight points for the Battlin' Bears in the final two minutes, holding off a late comeback effort from the Eagles and helped preserve Rocky's 3-0 start to the season.
