(RV) Rocky Men’s Basketball Uses Second Half Push to Defeat #23 Montana Western 81-70

DILLON, Mont.- Rocky Men's Basketball earned their second consecutive top-25 win on the road, defeating the No. 23-ranked Bulldogs 81-70.

Rocky now holds a perfect 3-0 record against top-25 opponents this season, all of which have been on the road. Omari Nesbit recorded his second consecutive 20+ point performance in the victory.

How It Happened

Montana Western had the upper hand early, converting on six of their first nine shots from the field to jump to a 13-6 lead through the first five minutes of play. The Battlin' Bears would heat up following this mark, however, converting on their next five shots from the field en route to a 12-2 run, capped off by an and-one by Kyle Jones to give Rocky a three-point lead. Neither team created much separation for the remainder of the half, as both teams shot over 50% from the field in the first half, leaving the Battlin' Bears with a four-point halftime lead.

The second half belonged squarely to the Battlin' Bears, as the Rocky men extended a lead as large as 21 through the final twenty minutes to earn the win. The game-defining run came early in the second half, where the Battlin' Bears scored 18 unanswered points after trailing by three points. During that stretch that lasted around four minutes of game time, the Battlin' Bears forced three Bulldog turnovers and hit seven of their eight shots from the field. Rocky kept their foot on the pedal, pushing their lead up over twenty in the final minutes to secure another ranked victory on the road.

Notable Statistics

Omari Nesbit led the Battlin' Bears in scoring, totaling 21 points on the evening, while also swiping two steals and a block. Carter McCoy was perfect from the field, totaling a career-high 19 points on nine-of-nine shooting from the field. Royce Robinson added 16 points, three assists, two steals, and a block.

The Rocky men finished the game shooting 56.1% from the field and 42.1% from three-point range. The Battlin' Bears were outrebounded for the first time this season, 25-to-30, while only turning the ball over nine times in the win.

Montana Western guard Emanuel Steward totaled a game-high 30 points in the loss.
