Rocky Track and Field Turns in Strong Outing at Al Manuel Invitational

MISSOULA, Mont.- Trystin Chapel, Logan Hughes, and Kellan Wahl all surpassed their own program records to highlight a strong weekend in Missoula for Rocky Track and Field. 

The meet was scored in two separate categories. The host school, the University of Montana, competed in a dual meet against Montana State. At the same time, the remainder of the competition, including the Battlin' Bears, was scored in the "Open" category. 

Women's Notable Results

Kellan Wahl continues to etch her name in the Battlin' Bear record books, extending her program record in the 100-meter with a 12.06-second finish to win the event. She now owns the top five 100-meter times in program history, two of which have come this season. She also extended her program record in the 200-meter, finishing in 26.00 seconds, extending a record she set in 2022 of 26.21 seconds. 

Charlize Davis won the 100-meter hurdles with a season-best time of 14.84 seconds, the second-best time of her career and in program history to win the event. She also placed second in the 200-meter with a time of 27.07 seconds. A jack-of-all-trades, Davis also competed in the javelin, tossing the fourth-best mark in program history of 35.55 meters to place third overall, and took second in the long jump with a leap of 5.22 meters, and took 10th overall in the shotput with a toss of 8.91 meters (29-02.75). 

Brooke Wirkkala won the long jump with a mark of 5.36 meters, the third-best mark in program history. She also leaped the third-best mark in program history in the high jump, recording a mark of 1.57 meters (5-01.75) to take second place. 

Kallyn Wilkins won the 1,500-meter race with a dominant performance, finishing in 4:45.33, a new personal best. 

Grace Timm turned in her best 3,000-meter steeplechase finish in a Rocky uniform, winning the race with a time of 11:33.63, the third-best time in program history. 

The Rocky women won the Women's Open category with a team total of 153 points, besting conference opponents Carroll College, Montana Tech, and Montana Western. 

Men's Notable Results

Logan Hughes extended his own program record in the hammer throw, tossing 49.17 meters (161-04) to take second overall. He also tossed the ninth-best mark in program history in the shot put, taking fifth place with a mark of 13.69 meters. 

Trystin Chapel won the men's long jump with a leap of 7.02 meters, the second-best mark in program history. Drifter Skillicorn followed in fourth place with the fifth-best mark in program history of 6.59 meters. 

Ryan LaMere continues to improve his 100-meter times, running a personal best of 10.98 seconds to win the event and inch closer and closer to Brenden Leaming's program record of 10.95 seconds. LaMere also ran a personal best in the 200 meters with a time of 22.84 seconds, winning the event and recording the eighth fastest time in program history. 

Braden Tomlin won in the pole vault, jumping 4.50 meters (14-09). 

The Rocky men went 1-2-3 in the 1,500 and the 5,000-meter, as Caleb Tomac led the charge with a victory in the 1,500 meter with a time of 3:57.90 and Justin Glass won the 5,000-meter with a time of 15:01.37. 

Connor Chase ran a personal best and the fourth best 3k steeplechase in program history with a time of 10:25.08, finishing fifth overall. 

The Rocky men took second in the Men's Open category, totaling 153.5 points. Montana Tech earned the team title, totaling 173 points.

Rocky Track and Field is next scheduled to compete in the Providence Open in Great Falls on April 10th.
