Jetmore Vaults A-Standard Mark in Pole Vault to Lead Battlin’ Bears at the Providence Open

GREAT FALLS, Mont.- Jay Jetmore improved his qualifying standard, leaping the sixth mark in the NAIA this season and a new program record, while Trystin Chapel and Logan Hughes bested their own program records on Thursday in Great Falls. 

The Providence Open was held at Great Falls High School. It featured most Frontier Conference teams, who are gearing up for the upcoming Frontier Conference Championships, which will start on May 4th in Helena.

Women's Notable Results

Kellan Wahl won the 100-meter race with a time of 12.29 seconds, the third-fastest time of her career and in program history. 

Charlize Davis finished second overall in the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 15.32. Over the past two seasons, Davis has recorded the top ten fastest times in program history in this event. 

Brooke Wirkkala grabbed second place in the high jump, leaping 1.56 meters (5 feet 1.25 inches). 

Wirkkala and Davis finished in third and fourth place, respectively, in the long jump. Wirkkala lept 5.37 meters (17 feet, 7.5 inches), while Davis followed closely behind with a leap of 5.36 meters (17 feet, 7 inches). 

Hannah Christman took second overall in the pole vault with a final mark of 3.05 meters (10 feet). 

With a condensed mid-week traveling group, the Battlin' Bears took fourth place overall with 50 points. 

Men's Notable Results

Jay Jetmore improved his qualifying mark, clearing an A-Standard mark of 4.90 meters (16 feet, 0.75 inches) to win the men's pole vault, breaking the program record in outdoors. His mark now ranks sixth in the NAIA this season, becoming just one of six pole vaulters in the NAIA to clear the A-Standard mark and one of 13 this season to qualify for the NAIA Outdoor T/F National Championships. 

Trystin Chapel broke the program record in the triple jump with a final mark of 14.25 meters (46 feet, 9 inches). He now owns the top three marks in program history through four attempts in the event during his freshman campaign. 

Logan Hughes bested his program record in the men's hammer throw, tossing a mark of 49.74 meters (163 feet, 2 inches). 

Treydon Hull set a new personal best in the discus, placing sixth with a mark of 40.22 meters (131 feet, 11 inches). His latest personal best ranks sixth-best in program history and becomes the first Battlin' Bear to record a top-ten mark since 2022. 

Hull and Hughes both threw personal bests in the shot put, as Hughes tossed a final mark of 14.50 meters (47 feet, 7 inches), the fifth-best mark in program history, and Hull tossed 13.76 meters (45 feet, 1.75 inches), the ninth-best mark in program history. 

Ryan LaMere took fourth place in the 100 meters at 11.16 seconds. The mark is his fourth mark that ranks inside the top ten in program history during his freshman season, tying for the sixth fastest finish by a Battlin' Bear. He also placed eighth in the 200 meters with a time of 22.80 seconds, a personal best, and tied the seventh-best mark in program history. 

Campbell Smith tied his personal best in the high jump with a final mark of 1.80 meters (5 feet, 10.75 inches) to place sixth overall and tie for the fifth-best mark in program history. 

Seth Petsch debuted his outdoor season with a second-place finish in the 800 meters, finishing in 1:58.02. 

Rocky's distance crew totaled six finishers in the top ten in the 1,500-meter race, led by a third-place finish by Matthew Conrad in 4:04.29. 

The Rocky men grabbed a third-place finish with 70.5 points overall.

Rocky Track and Field will be back in action in a week's time, traveling to Helena to compete in the Trudnowski Open starting Thursday, April 17th.
