Rocky 4x800 Meter Relay and Trystin Chapel Earn All-American Honors on Day Two of the NAIA National Championships

MARION, Ind.- The Battlin' Bear 4x800-meter team and freshman Trystin Chapel earned All-American honors with eighth-place finishes in their respective events to lead Rocky on day two of the NAIA National Championships. 

Freshman Trystin Chapel recorded Rocky's first points of the NAIA Championships on the men's side, placing eighth overall with a leap of 7.29 meters (23 feet, 11 inches). He recorded his best mark of the day on his first jump, the second-best mark in program history. He became the first Battlin' Bear to earn All-American honors in the long jump in program history. Chapel wraps up an impressive freshman campaign, where he recorded the program record in the long jump of 7.47 meters. 

The Battlin' Bear 4x800-meter relay team of Tyne Stokes, Kallyn Wilkins, Grace Timm, and Maya Pearcy placed eighth in the 4x800-meter relay, finishing with a time of 9:20.62. The time ranks fourth in program history, wrapping up an accomplished season where the four Battlin' Bears ran three of the four best times in program history, including the program record of 9:16.34. Their finish granted the Battlin' Bears one point in the team standings and earned All-American honors for the Rocky women. 

Maya Pearcy finished 13th overall in the women's 800-meter prelims, missing the finals by less than 1.5 seconds. She finished third overall in her heat with a time of 2:13.23 in her first individual nationals competition in her Battlin' Bear career. 

Charlize Davis wrapped up her first national competition in the Heptathlon, finishing 15th overall with a total score of 3,694 points. She finished 11th in the long jump with a jump of 5.05 meters to highlight her day two.

Rocky Track and Field will wrap up competition on Friday, as senior Jay Jetmore competes in the pole vault at 11:00 am, while senior Grace Timm competes in the 3k Steeplechase on the track at 11:00 am.
