Rocky Football Picked Third in the Frontier Conference East Division

8/18/2025 12:19:00 PM

BILLINGS, Mont.- The Frontier Conference announced its 2025 Football Coaches Preseason Poll on Monday, which saw the Battlin' Bears picked third in the East Division.

Coaches were not allowed to vote for their own teams in their own division.  There are two divisions in the football conference – East and West.  First place is worth seven (7) points, second place is worth six (6) points, third place is worth five (5) points, and so on to the last place with one (1) point.

The Battlin' Bears will compete in the East Division beginning this fall, as the Frontier Conference expansion divided the football-playing schools into two separate seven-team divisions. The East Division teams include Rocky, Montana Tech, MSU-Northern, Dickinson State, Dakota State, Mayville State, and Valley City State.

Rocky Football was picked third in the Preseason Coaches Poll with 25 total points. Montana Tech was picked as the favorite, totaling 34 points and four first-place votes. The Orediggers narrowly edged returning Frontier Conference members Dickinson State, who tallied 33 points and three first-place votes for a second-place spot.

Dakota State (21 points), Mayville State (14 points), Valley City State (13 points), and MSU-Northern (7 points) rounded out the East Division poll.

Reigning Frontier Conference Champions Montana Western headlined as the favorites in the West Division.

The Frontier Conference will be as competitive as ever, featuring three teams that qualified for the 2024 NAIA Football Championship and five teams that were in or received votes in the Postseason 2024 Top 25 Poll. The Battlin' Bear schedule reflects this, with matchups against four of the top five finishing teams in the conference to open up their season before divisional play.

After three straight seasons of six or more wins for Rocky Football, the Battlin' Bears will look to bounce back from a 2024 season that saw them tie for a 7th-place finish in the Frontier Conference. Rocky Football opens up its season on Herb Klindt Field against the College of Idaho on September 6th.
