Bench Shines in (RV) Rocky Men’s Basketball’s 82-62 Win Over Mayville State

BILLINGS, Mont.- Led by 41 bench points, including a game-high 17 from junior Kyle Jones, the Battlin' Bears secured a commanding victory at home on Saturday evening.

An efficient offensive evening saw the Battlin' Bears shoot over 50% from the field and from three-point range. Saturday's win was the ninth game of the season with 80 or more points, as well as the 12th game this season of holding their opponents under 70 points.

How It Happened

A slow start for the Battlin' Bears saw Mayville State take an early 7-2 lead through the first five minutes of the game. From then on, however, Rocky's offense would erupt, securing a lead they would never give back with a 15-0 run to quickly go from deficit to double-digit lead. The offense continued to excel, converting on their final six shots from the field, including four consecutive three-pointers, to give Rocky a nine-point halftime advantage.

Omari Nesbit sparked the Battlin' Bears with a steal and a fastbreak dunk on the other end to open the half, leading to a 7-0 run. After Mayville State briefly trimmed its deficit to single digits, Rocky would respond with a 9-0 run, aided by forcing a pair of Comet turnovers to lead by 16 points with 13 minutes to play. Another Comet comeback effort would be silenced after the Battlin' Bears held Mayville State scoreless for over four minutes of game time, again building their lead to 16 points. Efficiency at the free-throw line secured the victory for Rocky, sinking nine-of-ten attempts in the final four minutes to secure a weekend sweep and a twenty-point win at home.
