Hughes Breaks Weight Throw School Record as Rocky Women Place 2nd; Men 4th at the Dave Little Alumni Open

SPEARFISH, S.D.- Junior Logan Hughes shattered his own personal best to earn a program record in the weight throw, as five Battlin' Bears earned individual victories in South Dakota on Saturday.  

Men's Notable Results

Logan Hughes set a new program record in the weight throw, placing second overall with a mark of 16.77 meters (55-00.25). His new program record was a new personal best by over two meters. 

Freshman Raynor Ranum won the men's shotput with the second-best toss in program history, finishing with a final mark of 15.73 meters (51-07.25). Logan Hughes followed in sixth place with a final mark of 13.97 meters (45-10.00). 

Ryan LaMere qualified for the 60-meter finals with a fifth-place finish in 7.13 seconds. LaMere went on to finish third in the finals, crossing the line in 7.05 seconds, the fourth fastest time in program history. 

Drifter Skillicorn ran a new indoor personal best, finishing third in the 200 meters with a time of 23.34 seconds. His finish ranks fourth fastest in program history. 

Caleb Tomac finished fifth in the 800-meter with a time of 2:00.66, while Corbyn Svec finished fifth in the mile with a time of 4:32.45.

Robby Gress qualified for the 60-meter hurdles with a sixth-place finish in the prelims, crossing the line in 9.22 seconds. Gress finished fifth in the finals with a time of 8.94 seconds, the fifth fastest time in program history. 

Joseph Orndorff placed fifth in the 5,000-meters with a time of 15:51.45, with Zachary Zwiesler following in seventh with a time of 16:01.00. 

The Battlin' Bear Distance Medley Relay Team of Caleb Tomac, Ashtyn Rask, Justin Glass, and John Spinti finished third overall with a total time of 10:39.28. 

Women's Notable Results

Charlize Davis won both the prelims and finals in the 60-meter hurdles, running 9.09 seconds in both races. 

Brooke Wirkkala won both the long jump and high jump, recording a final mark of 1.61 meters (5-03.25)  in the high jump and 5.35 meters (17-06.75) in the long jump. Her finish in the high jump ranks second in program history, while her long jump finish is tied for fourth best in program history. 

The Rocky women's Distance Medley Relay Team of Jayden Woodland, Rylie Schoenfeld, Maya Pearcy, and Hannah Geisen earned first place with a time of 13:24.59. 

Maya Pearcy won the 800 meters with a time of 2:21.45, the seventh-fastest time in program history. Jayden Woodland followed in fourth place (2:31.62), and Kallyn Wilkins finished sixth overall (2:33.56). 

Baylee Young finished fourth in the 400 meters with a time of 1:05.82. 

Kallyn Wilkins placed third in the mile, crossing the line in 5:38.35. 

Up Next

Rocky Track and Field will continue the indoor season with a trip to Bismarck, North Dakota, next weekend to compete in the UMary Winter Classic, hosted by the University of Mary.
