ASHEVILLE, N.C.- A program record and a pair of top-20 national finishes highlighted a strong opening day for Rocky Mountain College at the NAIA Outdoor Track & Field National Championships on Wednesday.

Junior Logan Hughes kicked off the championship action in the field, securing a 16th-place finish in the hammer throw with a top mark of 51.51 meters (169-00). The performance caps off a stellar season for Hughes, who qualified for both the Indoor and Outdoor National Championships this year and earned his second consecutive All-Conference nod.

On the track, the women's 4x800-meter relay team of Jayden Woodland, Maya Pearcy, Kallyn Wilkins, and Rylie Schoenfeld crossed the finish line fifth in their heat and 16th overall in the preliminaries. In the process, they set a new Rocky Mountain College program record with a time of 9:15.50.

John Spinti was originally scheduled to compete in the 10,000-meter run on Wednesday evening. However, severe weather in the Asheville area forced officials to reschedule. Spinti is now slated to run the men's 10k on Thursday at 5:35 p.m. (MT).
