Pearcy Runs “A” Standard; Hughes Tosses “B” Standard to Highlight Efforts at the UMary Winter Classic

BISMARCK, N.D.- Rocky Track and Field saw their first two qualifying marks of the season, as junior Maya Pearcy earned an A-Standard finish in the 800-meters, while junior Logan Hughes clinched his first career qualifying mark in the weight throw.  

Men's Notable Results

Logan Hughes earned his first career qualifying mark, tossing a B-Standard mark of 17.59 meters (57' 8.5") in the weight throw, placing third overall and breaking the program record for the second consecutive weekend. Hughes becomes the first Battlin' Bear thrower to toss a qualifying mark since Michael Lee in 2020. 

Ryan LaMere broke the program record in the 200 meters, finishing sixth overall with a time of 22.70. He also finished fifth in the 60-meter finals, running the second-fastest time of his career in 7.01 seconds.  

John Spinti raced to a second-place finish in the men's mile, crossing the line in 4:16.36, the eighth fastest time in program history. His time marks the second-best in the Frontier this season, and his converted time of 4:13.13 (track size) came just 1.13 seconds away from a B-Standard qualifying mark. 

Keenan Morris leaped a collegiate best 4.48 meters (14' 8.25") in the pole vault, with fellow freshman Theron Klebe finishing in seventh with a leap of 4.33 meters (14' 2.5"). Morris's leap ranks second-best in the Frontier Conference this season, while Klebe ties for fourth-best overall. 

Raynor Ranum continued a strong freshman indoor campaign, placing second in the shotput with a toss of 15.63 meters (51' 3.5"), ranking third in program history. 

Drifter Skillicorn ran a personal best of 51.65 seconds in the 400 meters to place fourth overall. His time ranks eighth in program history. 

Women's Notable Results

Maya Pearcy set a new program record and dashed to an A-Standard mark in the 800-meter, crossing the line in 2:14.85. Pearcy was an outdoor qualifier in the 800-meter last season, as well as an All-American member of both the 4x800-meter relay and the Distance Medley Relay. Pearcy's finish ranks third in the NAIA this season, and she currently ranks as the lone Frontier Conference runner to qualify in the 800-meter run this season. 

Following Pearcy in the 800 was Jayden Woodland in second (2:29.18) and Rylie Schoenfeld in third place (2:29.97). 

Charlize Davis won the preliminary and finals in the 60-meter hurdles. Her preliminary time was 9.01 seconds, followed by a finals time of 9.12 seconds. Davis' prelims time of 9.01 seconds ranks fourth-best in the Frontier Conference this season. 

Brooke Wirkkala finished third in the high jump with a final mark of 1.59 meters (5' 2.5"), ranking as the fourth-best mark in program history. Wirkkala also finished second in the women's long jump with a final mark of 5.29 meters (17' 4.25").
