#23 Rocky Men’s Basketball Secures Season Sweep Over #20 Orediggers With 82-71 Victory at Home

BILLINGS, Mont.- Rocky Men's Basketball secured first place in the Frontier Conference following an 82-71 victory over #20 Montana Tech at home.

The victory gave the Battlin' Bears a season sweep over Montana Tech, the first time Rocky has done so since the 2017-18 season. Coupled with Bellevue's loss to Valley City State on Saturday, the Rocky men stand alone at the top of the Frontier Conference with a 14-2 conference record.

How It Happened

After the Orediggers opened up the scoring, the Battlin' Bears would convert on three consecutive trips offensively, forcing an early Montana Tech timeout following an 8-0 run. Drew Bowman and Omari Nesbit combined for a three-point frenzy, as they combined for four consecutive three-pointers to pile a 12-4 run that gave Rocky an 11-point lead with 10 minutes to go in the first half. While the Orediggers trimmed their deficit to single digits, the Battlin' Bears would end the final two minutes of the half on a 9-2 run, including a deep three-pointer from Omari Nesbit ahead of the halftime buzzer, giving Rocky a 46-30 lead at the break. Three-point shooting was spectacular for Rocky in the opening period, sinking eight of 13 through the opening 20 minutes.

Rocky would continue their momentum coming out of the halftime break, extending a lead as large as 20 over the opening three minutes of the second half. The Battlin' Bear offense would see a cold stretch, allowing Montana Tech to combine for a 9-0 run to cut their deficit to ten points. Both teams traded baskets for a majority of the second half, allowing the Battlin' Bears to largely maintain a double-digit lead. Montana Tech was able to battle in the final minutes, but dunks from Drew Bowman and Carter McCoy sealed Rocky's ninth consecutive victory.

Notable Statistics

Omari Nesbit recorded a game-high 24 points, sinking four threes along with two steals. Carter McCoy added an efficient 18 points on eight-of-11 shooting from the field. The Rocky men shot an excellent 55% from the field and 37.5% from three-point range. Rocky outrebounded the Orediggers 26-21.
