#23 Rocky Men’s Basketball Withstands Late Dakota State Run For Their Tenth Straight Win

MADISON, S.D.- Rocky Men's Basketball came out on top of a defensive battle, securing a season sweep of Dakota State following a 60-58 win on the road.

The Battlin' Bear men hit the 20-win mark for the first time since the 2014-15 season, as they extend their winning streak to ten games and improve to 9-0 in road games this season.

How It Happened

After Royce Robinson opened the scoring for the contest, Dakota State would take the first swing, putting together a 10-2 run to swipe a five-point lead after the first five minutes of play. After the Trojans extended their lead to seven, Jacob Bilodeau would help spark Rocky's offense, scoring five straight points to rally a 9-4 run to cut Rocky's deficit down to two. The Battlin' Bears would dominate the final four minutes of the first half, sinking five of their final six shots from the field, including a buzzer-beating three-pointer from Omari Nesbit to cap off a 13-2 run, giving the Rocky men a 30-23 halftime lead.

Rocky would play well in the opening ten minutes, extending their lead to 13 points following a three-pointer from Drew Bowman. The Trojans wouldn't go away quietly, however, as a 7-0 response cut their deficit down to six, while later in the half totaling another 7-0 run to bring the game within two points with five minutes to play in the contest. After nearly two minutes of scoreless action, Dakota State would tie the contest at 48-48. After a dunk from Carter McCoy and an and-one jumper from Omari Nesbit would maintain Rocky's advantage, Mekhi Jourdan and Omari Nesbit combined to shoot five-of-six from the free throw line to give Rocky a four-point advantage with 14 seconds remaining. The Trojans would drain a quick three-pointer to bring the contest within one, and after Rocky split the free throws, Dakota State would be fouled with just a second remaining with a chance to tie the game at the free throw line, but the Trojans would come up empty, securing Rocky's sweep of Dakota State this season.

Four Battlin' Bears finished in double-figures, led by 13 points from Omari Nesbit. Royce Robinson added 12 points and eight rebounds, while Mekhi Jourdan and Jacob Bilodeau each tallied 10 points and five rebounds.
