(RV) Rocky Men’s Basketball Topples Valley City State 81-65 at Home

BILLINGS, Mont.- Twenty second-chance points and five Battlin' Bears scoring in double figures led the charge for Rocky's home victory over Valley City State on Friday.

The Battlin' Bear defense, which is ranked sixth in the NAIA in scoring defense, held its opponent to under 70 points for the third consecutive game while also forcing 20 Valley City State turnovers in the winning effort.

How It Happened

After a back-and-forth start, the Rocky offense would begin to click, converting five consecutive shots from the field to snag a six-point lead after the first five minutes. Neither team could create any separation in the first half, as a jumper from Valley City State cut their deficit to just one point with four minutes to play. Drew Bowman would help spark a 10-4 run to close the half, beginning the run with a layup and ending the half with a buzzer-beating three-pointer to give the Battlin' Bears a seven point lead at halftime.

With the Battlin' Bears holding their lead through the first eight minutes, Rocky's defense began to flip the contest, forcing three Viking turnovers to spark an 11-0 lead to build their lead to 17 points. Offensive efficiency and stout defense would help seal the contest for the Battlin' Bears, forcing four more Valley City turnovers in the final seven minutes, while sinking all six of their free throw attempts over that stretch to hold their lead and earn their fourth straight conference victory.

Five Battlin' Bears finished the game in double-figures, led by 14 points, six rebounds, and four assists from Royce Robinson.
