#11 Rocky Men’s Basketball Grinds Out 75-69 Win Over (RV) MSU-Northern

BILLINGS, Mont.- #11 Rocky Men's Basketball closed strong to overcome the Lights and improve their winning streak to 12 games.

Defense was crucial down the stretch for the Rocky men, as the fourth-ranked scoring defense in the NAIA forced five turnovers in the final five minutes of play. On the offensive end, Royce Robinson took the game over, scoring ten of his team-high 23 points in the final five minutes as the Battlin' Bears overcame a late deficit on their home floor.

The win marks the 200th career victory for Head Coach Danny Neville, totaling 178 wins over nine seasons at the University of Jamestown and now his 22nd victory at the helm of the Battlin' Bears.

How It Happened

Jacob Bilodeau paced the Battlin' Bear offense early on, scoring nine of the first 15 points for the Rocky men, as they remained tied with the Lights 15-15 with 11:23 remaining in the first half. Drew Bowman sank a pair of threes to help spark an 8-2 run to open Rocky's first lead of note, leading by six with ten minutes to play in the first half. Rocky would extend a lead up to eight points with under four minutes to play, but MSU-Northern would cut their deficit down to four at halftime, 39-35.

With both teams trading baskets to open the half, MSU-Northern would pile together a 12-2 run to turn a five-point deficit into a five-point lead with ten minutes to play. The Lights would maintain their advantage going into the final four minutes of play, but redshirt sophomore Royce Robinson would begin to take over the contest. The Lewistown product sank a three-pointer to tie the contest, and after a layup from MSU-Northern, would sink two more free throws to tie the contest again. A steal and fastbreak slam from Carter McCoy on the ensuing possession would give Rocky a lead they would never relinquish. The Battlin' Bears would sink three-of-five shots from the field and all five of their free throw attempts in the final three minutes, securing a hard-fought victory on their home floor.
