#11 Rocky Men’s Basketball Clinches Outright Regular Season Title Following 87-59 Win Over Mayville State

MAYVILLE, N.D.- A balanced scoring attack saw Rocky finish with six players scoring in double-figures, clinching their first outright Frontier Conference Regular Season title since 2013-14.

The Battlin' Bears now clinch the No. 1 seed in the upcoming Frontier Conference Tournament, as well as earn an automatic bid to the NAIA National Championship Tournament, their first appearance since the 2018-19 season.

How It Happened

Rocky left little doubt from the opening tip on the road, controlling the opening five minutes to jump out to an early 17-2 lead. While Mayville State would find momentum to trim their deficit to single-digits midway through the first half, but an and-one from Jacob Bilodeau would cap an 18-8 response for the Battlin' Bears, taking a 16-point lead at half. Bilodeau scored 13 first-half points, while Royce Robinson and Omari Nesbit added 10 apiece.

Again, it was a dominant start to the half for the Battlin' Bears, holding Mayville State without a field goal for the opening six minutes of the second half, totaling a 12-1 start. Another 11-2 run later in the half stretched Rocky's lead over 30 points, leaving Mayville without a doubt, earning a season-sweep over the Comets, their 14th straight win, and improving their record on the road to 11-0.
