PREVIEW: Rocky Track and Field Gears Up For Frontier Conference Indoor T/F Championships in Brookings; 25 Battlin’ Bears Earn Academic All-Conference

BROOKINGS, S.D.- 25 Battlin' Bears were honored with Academic All-Conference honors as Rocky Track and Field hits the road to compete in the Frontier Conference Indoor T/F Championships starting on Saturday.  

Men's Preview

Entering the conference championships, the Rocky men have totaled one 'A' Standard mark and five 'B' Standard finishes during the regular season. 

Sophomore John Spinti enters the weekend with an atlittude adjusted best time of 14:24.63, the top time in the Frontier Conference and the fifth-best time in the NAIA this season. 

Spinti is also a member of the 'B' Standard qualifying Distance Medley Relay team. Joined by Caleb Tomac, Drifter Skillicorn, and Ashtyn Rask, Rocky recorded the second-best time in the Frontier this season at 10:07.08, while also ranking 11th in the NAIA so far this season. 

A pair of Battlin' Bear freshmen enter the weekend with the second-best marks in the conference this season. Raynor Ranum clinched a 'B' Standard mark in the shot put with a toss of 16.19 meters, while Keenan Morris cleared 4.75 meters in the pole vault. 

Logan Hughes rounds out the Battlin' Bears with a national qualifying standard, breaking the program record in the weight throw with a toss of 17.59 meters, ranking fifth in the conference this season. 

Other top-five conference marks this season for the Battlin' Bears include the following: 

Ryan LaMere: 200-meter (21.97; 4th)
Drifter Skillicorn: 400-meter (49.39; 4th)
John Spinti: Mile (4:12.36; 2nd)
Caleb Tomac: Mile (4:15.44; 4th) & 5,000 meters (15:05.99; 5th)
Zachary Zwiesler: 3,000 meters (8:46.20; 4th)
Justin Glass: 5,000 meters (15:05.96; 4th)
Theron Klebe: Pole Vault (4.45m; 4th)

Women's Preview

The Rocky women have totaled one 'A' Standard and four 'B' Standard qualifying marks during the regular season. 

Junior Maya Pearcy leads the charge with the top 800-meter time in the conference, running an altitude-adjusted time of 2:11.75, which also ranks fourth in the NAIA this season. Pearcy also has recorded a 'B' Standard mark in the 600-meter with a time of 1:35.37, ranking second in the conference this season. 

Pearcy was also a key member of the Rocky Distance Medley Relay team, including Rylie Schoenfeld, Kallyn Wilkins, and Jayden Woodland, who have the top finish in the Frontier Conference and a 'B' Standard time of 12:13.12. Their time also ranks 6th in the NAIA, an event in which the Battlin' Bears earned All-American honors a season ago. 

Charlize Davis holds the best 60-meter hurdles time in the Frontier Conference, a 'B' Standard time of 8.71 seconds. Her time ranks 10th in the NAIA this season. 

Brooke Wirkkala rounds out the Battlin' Bears with qualifying marks so far this season, clearing 1.66 meters in the high jump, a 'B' standard leap, and the third-best mark in the Frontier Conference. 

Hannah Christman has the fourth-best pole vault mark in the conference, clearing 3.00 meters, while Jayden Woodland ranks fifth in the 5,000 meters with a time of 18:18.83. 

Academic All-Conference

The Rocky Track and Field totaled 25 Academic All-Conference honorees, announced by the Frontier Conference on Thursday. To be eligible for the award, student-athletes must be at least sophomores in standing and carry a minimum cumulative grade point average (GPA) of 3.25.
