Ranum Tosses ‘B’ Standard in the Shotput at the Diggers Spring Series II Meet Saturday

BUTTE, Mont.- Another Battlin' Bear freshman secured a qualifying mark on Saturday, as Raynor Ranum recorded a 'B' Standard mark in the shot put in Butte. 

Men's Notable Results

Freshman Raynor Ranum secured a 'B' Standard in the shot put, tossing 16.28 meters (53-05) to take second place and break the program record in the event. His mark ranks 11th in the NAIA so far this season. 

Ranum also finished fifth in the discus, tossing 44.62 meters (146-05), the fifth-best mark in program history. 

Ryan LaMere ran a season-best and the fourth-fastest 100-meter time in program history at 10.94 seconds, taking second place overall. Jack Phelps (11.31) and Trevor Walter (11.44) each ran personal bests to take fourth and seventh, respectively. 

LaMere also won the 200-meter with a time of 22.15 seconds, the seventh-fastest time in program history. 

Jack Phelps won the 400 meters with a personal best time of 50.73 seconds, the sixth-fastest time in program history. 

Campbell Smith placed second in the high jump with a mark of 1.86 meters (6-01.25), tying for the fifth-best finish in program history. 

Logan Hughes placed third in the hammer throw, recording a mark of 52.10 meters, the second-best of his career and in program history. 

Travis Caton placed second in the javelin with a personal best of 47.35 meters (155-04), the fourth-best mark in program history. 

Zachary Zwiesler took second in the 3,000 meters with a raw time of 8:59.27. 

The Rocky men finished second overall, totaling 107 points. Hosts Montana Tech won the event with 203 team points. 

Women's Notable Results

Charlize Davis took second place in the 100 meters with a time of 12.63 seconds, a personal best and the seventh-fastest time in school history. Davis also won the 100 hurdles in 15.01 seconds, the ninth-fastest time in program history. 

The Battlin' Bear 4x800 meter relay team of Jayden Woodland, Rylie Schoenfeld, Kallyn Wilkins, and Maya Pearcy finished second overall with a time of 9:40.71 (before altitude conversions), the tenth-best time in program history. 

Brooke Wirkkala won the high jump, clearing 1.62 meters (5-03.75), and placed second in the long jump with a mark of 5.43 meters (17-09.75). 

The Battlin' Bears totaled 53 team points to take fourth overall.

Rocky Track and Field will travel to Dickinson, North Dakota, to compete in the Blue Hawk Games, a preview of the host site of the Frontier Conference Championships starting on May 2nd.
