Rocky Men’s Basketball Defeats SAIT 91-58

BILLINGS, Mont. - The Battlin' Bears pick up back to back victories as they defeat Southern Alberta Institute of Technology 91-58 Thursday evening in the Hampton Inn Green and Gold Classic.

SAIT started out hot, as Marcus Masters scored eight quick points to give the Trojans a 20-17 lead midway through the first half. The Battlin' Bears would storm back however, as the Battlin' Bears would go on a 17-6 run, then finish the half off on a 10-0 run to give themselves a 47-28 lead.

It was all Rocky from then on out, as Tayshawun Bradford would go on a tear, scoring all 20 of his points in the second half, shooting 7-7 from the field and 4-4 from three point range, which propelled the Battlin' Bears to a 91-58 victory.

Three point shooting and turnovers defined the Battlin' Bears victory Thursday. The Battlin' Bears hit 13 threes at a 50% clip in the winning effort. The Battlin' Bears also forced 20 Trojan turnovers, while only coughing up the ball six times.

"I liked how we finished the first half by playing aggressive defense and turning defense into offense." Coach Bill Dreikosen said. "We felt at halftime that we left some points on the board because we weren't finishing well inside. We also talked about keeping our intensity up and in the second half I felt like we did a good job of that. Solid first game back home and now we have to be ready tomorrow versus a good Dickinson State team."

The Battlin' Bears were led by Bradford's 20 points off the bench, Kael Robinson's 15 points, six rebounds, and two assists, and Kace Kitchel's nine points and nine rebounds. Jesse Owens scored all of his 13 points in the first half and also dished four assists.

The Trojans were led by 21 points and three steals from Marcus Masters, along with 10 points and six rebounds from Marc-Denault Gabriel.

The Battlin' Bears (8-5) will get a rematch with Dickinson State Friday evening in the finale of the Hampton Inn Green and Gold Classic, tipping off at 7:30pm.
