Rocky Men’s Basketball Stumbles in Dickinson State Rematch; Fall 66-56

BILLINGS, Mont.- A Battlin' Bear offense that averaged over 90 points per game entering Saturday had an uncharacteristic night as the Rocky men were held to a season-low 56 points in a losing effort against Dickinson State on Saturday evening.

Dickinson State got out to an early lead in a low-scoring start on Saturday as Aidan Fishell hit a jumper to give the Blue Hawks a 13-10 lead after seven minutes of play. Liam Romei and Luca Brooks came off the bench to lead the Battlin' Bears on a 12-3 run. Romei kicked it off with a diving defensive rebound that was rewarded with a transition three-pointer and Brooks capitalized the run with a stepback three that gave Rocky a 23-16 lead. Offensive production came to a screeching halt following this run, however, as Scott Malikie hit a pair of free throws with 7:33 remaining in the half for the final points for Rocky in the first half. Their scoring slump resulted in a five-point deficit going into halftime.
A 9-0 run by the Battlin' Bears cut their deficit down to three with 14 minutes left, but the Blue Hawks were able to answer any remaining runs by the Battlin' Bears as Dickinson State leaves Billings with an upset victory over the 15th-ranked Rocky men.

Kael Robinson led the way with 17 points and nine rebounds. Liam Romei scored 11 points off the bench as the only other Battlin' Bear in double figures. Rocky shot just 32.8% from the field and only 3-16 from three in the loss.

The Battlin' Bears (8-4) play their final non-conference matchup on Sunday afternoon as they will take on the Trojans of Southern Alberta Institute of Technology for the second time this weekend. Tipoff will be at 2:00 pm at Lockwood High School.
