Four School Records Fall; Tomlin Hits “A” Qualifying Mark in Rocky Track and Field’s Opener in Bozeman Thursday

Tomlin, Skillicorn, and the Wahl sisters all break school records in Rocky's season opener.

BOZEMAN, Mont.- Braden Tomlin clinched his spot at this year's NAIA Indoor Track National Championship Meet and four school records were rewritten in Rocky's first competition of the season at the Bobcat PReview on Thursday afternoon.

Tomlin placed fifth overall in the men's pole vault with a new school record vault of 4.75 meters, which matches the "A" standard qualifying height and sets a new personal best that he set at the Frontier Conference Championship a season ago. He cleared his opening height of 4.60 and his final mark of 4.75 on his first vaults, before bowing out after three attempts at 4.90 meters.

Freshman Drifter Skillicorn, just a few weeks after concluding his first cross-country season, placed sixth in the men's long jump with a final mark of 6.44 meters. He was the highest-finishing NAIA competitor and set a new Rocky school record.

On the women's side, Kellan Wahl placed sixth overall in the 60 meters with a time of 7.82, a school record, and the fastest finish of any NAIA competitor. Wahl's finish was just 0.9 seconds from the NAIA "B" standard qualifying time of 7.73. Wahl also finished third overall in the 200 meters with a time of 27.02, trailing just Audrey Smith and Tara Ohlwiler from the University of Montana by less than a second.

Kellan's younger sister, Kendall, finished her first collegiate competition with a school record of her own as she placed sixth overall in the women's triple jump with a mark of 10.68 meters. Kendall Wahl also competed in the long jump, finishing 13th.

Freshman Logan Hughes placed ninth in the men's weight throw with a throw of 13.68 meters in his first collegiate competition. Teammate Ross Lyon followed behind in 12th place with a throw of 12.81 meters.

The Battlin' Bears will take a rest until the new year when they will travel to compete in the Myrle Hanson Open, hosted by Black Hills State University in Spearfish, S.D.
