Zuleta and Dexheimer Lead the Battlin’ Bears to an Oredigger Invite Sweep

BUTTE, Mont.- The Battlin' Bears took home both individual and team victories after the final rounds of play on Tuesday at the Butte Country Club. 

On the women's side, junior Valentina Zuleta took home her first individual victory of the season after finishing seven-over-par 149 (74,75). The day one leader, sophomore Kadence Fischer finished second overall, shooting a 12-over-par 154. Tyla Potgieter and Grace Metcalf rounded out the Rocky scorers, both shooting 20-over-par 162 to tie for 6th overall with two other competitors. Other Rocky competitors included
-Isabella Downing: 23-over-par 165 (83,82; T-11th)
-Landri Paladichuk: 31-over-par 173 (89,84; T-15th)
-Teagan Oliva: 31-over-par 173 (89,84; T-15th)
-Sarah Halferty: 36-over-par 178 (86,92; T-18th)

The Battlin' Bears women begin their season with a team victory, finishing with a team score of 59-over-par 627, 22 strokes ahead of second place Montana Tech. 

The men finished their third round on Tuesday as well, with sophomore William Dexheimer taking a late individual victory. Dexheimer finished his round with birdies on hole 16 and 17, then a par on hole 18 to edge out Dickinson State's Bryce Reed for the one-stroke victory. Dexheimer finished two-over-par 212 (72,70,70) on his way to his first individual victory of the season. Following behind Dexheimer was five other top-10 finishers for the Battlin' Bears, as Jared Smith shot four-over-par 214 (73,71,70) to finish fourth, Daniel Sigurjonsson shot five-over-par 215 (72,73,70) to finish fifth, and Leon Doedtmann shot eight-over-par 218 (73,72,73) to finish seventh overall to round out the Rocky scorers. Other Rocky competitors included
-Aidan McDonagh: 11-over-par 221 (75,72,74; T-8th)
-Tanner Hanson: 11-over-par 221 (74,72,75; T-8th)
-Tristan Hanson: 14-over-par 224 (75,74,75; T-10th)
-Adam Hyde-Lay: 19-over-par 229 (75,76,78; T-16th)

The Battlin' Bears men finished with a team score of 19-over-par 859, 29 strokes ahead of runner-up Dickinson State. 

"I'm proud of how both teams played and battled this week," Coach Nathan Bailey said. "We have some things to tighten up heading into next week, but completing the sweep is a great start to the season."

The Battlin' Bears will travel to Great Falls, Montana next Monday and Tuesday to compete in the Argo Invite, hosted by University of Providence at Meadowlark CC.
