GAME NOTES: Rocky Men’s Basketball Looks to Avenge Previous Overtime Loss to MSU-Northern

BILLINGS, Mont.- Matchups have been nothing but exciting between the Rocky men and MSU-Northern as of late, as three of the past four games have been decided in overtime.

The Rocky men earned their second conference victory over the University of Providence last Thursday before falling at home to No. 8 ranked Montana Tech at home on Saturday.

The Battlin' Bear offense is one of just two teams in the Frontier Conference to average 80 or more points per game in conference play.

Jesse Owens is one of only two players in the Frontier to average 20 or more points per game in conference play. His 6.1 assists per game in conference play ties him for 7th in the NAIA in conference games.

Luca Brooks has scored 10 or more points in four of the seven conference games this season and has grabbed two or more steals in all but one conference game. He leads the Frontier Conference averaging 2.0 steals per game in Frontier Conference play.

Maxim Stephens is the leading total rebounder and leading offensive rebounder in the Frontier Conference, grabbing 9.7 rebounds per game in conference play. His 3.9 offensive rebounds leads the Frontier and ranks 11th in the NAIA in conference games. Only one other player in the Frontier Conference averages more than two offensive rebounds per game.

The Battlin' Bears fell in overtime 87-84 in their last matchup with the Lights. Three of the last four games between these two teams have been decided in overtime. The Rocky men earned an overtime victory in their last game played in Havre a season ago. Kace Kitchel was Rocky's leading scorer on the day, recording his first career double-double with a 12-point, 14-rebound performance.

The Lights are still seeking their second conference victory this season, with their lone win coming against Rocky. Zackry Martinez is the third-leading scorer in the conference, scoring 17.3 points per game in conference play. Despite a loss in their last game out, junior JJ Thomas recorded 13 points, eight rebounds, and five blocks.

The Battlin' Bears will look to prevent the Lights from their first home victory in 2024 on Thursday evening.
