Rocky Men’s Basketball Stumbles Against the Lights 87-83 in Havre

HAVRE, Mont.- Despite a strong offensive showing that included all five starters in double figures, the Battlin' Bears were unable to overcome a second-half run by the Lights on Thursday.

A.J. Wilson put a midrange jumper down to lead the Battlin' Bears on a 13-4 run in the middle of the first half that extended their lead to 13. The Lights would respond with a 13-2 run of their own to cut their deficit back to just two points. Elliott Brooks beat the first-half buzzer with a deep three-pointer to extend Rocky's lead back out to four going into the break.

It was the redshirt freshman Luca Brooks' night from the field, opening the second half up with five quick points to maintain Rocky's lead. MSU-Northern's Dae'Kwon Watson would soon take over the game offensively, hitting all three free throws after being fouled to give the Lights a lead they would hold onto for the remaining 17 minutes of play. Watson would go on to score 24 second-half points on his way to a 32-point performance.

The Battlin' Bears stayed in the game for the entirety of regulation, as every Lights run to extend the lead would soon be countered. Kael Robinson and Luca Brooks hit back-to-back three-pointers to cut the Rocky deficit to just one with six minutes remaining. Ultimately, the Lights would remain solid from the free throw line to secure a victory over the Battlin' Bears.

Luca Brooks finished with a career-high 22 points on 6-8 shooting from three-point range and 8-11 shooting from the field. A.J. Wilson added 17 points and seven rebounds, Kael Robinson scored 15, Maxim Stephens tallied a double-double with 12 points and 10 rebounds, and Jesse Owens rounded out the starting five with 10 points and seven assists.

The Rocky Men (11-10, 2-6 conf.) will continue their road trip as they take on Carroll College on Saturday afternoon.
