Rocky Men’s Basketball Falls in Helena 77-70 to Carroll College

HELENA, Mont.- The Rocky men dropped their third straight matchup on Saturday to conclude their road trip.

Both teams traded baskets for the first six minutes of play as a layup by A.J. Wilson gave the Battlin' Bears an early lead. Carroll would hold Rocky scoreless for four minutes and ultimately turned it into a 15-2 run over a five-minute stretch to give the Fighting Saints a double-digit lead. Luca Brooks would single-handedly carry the Battlin' Bear offense for the final six minutes of the first half, scoring 12 straight points for the Rocky men to bring the game back within single digits. The Fighting Saints would respond by ending the half on a 9-3 run to take a 14-point lead going into halftime.

Carroll would extend a daunting lead early in the second half thanks to a 16-0 over a two-minute stretch, which featured 5-5 shooting from the field and 4-4 shooting from three in that time, stretching a lead as large as 25 points. The Battlin' Bears worked their way back, holding Carroll to just eight points in the final 10 minutes of play, but were ultimately unable to overcome the second-half deficit, falling 77-70 in Helena.

Luca Brooks was Rocky's leading scorer for the second consecutive game, scoring 19 points with five made three-pointers and also grabbing six rebounds. Jesse Owens tallied 17 points, five assists, and two steals, and A.J. Wilson finished with 17 points and five rebounds.

Carroll College had a balanced offensive attack throughout, with nine different players scoring in the win, with seven of those scoring five or more points.

The Rocky Men (11-11, 2-7 conf.) will look to get back on track at home as they host Montana Western and the University of Providence.
