Rocky Men’s Basketball Unable to Secure Season Sweep Over University of Providence

BILLINGS, Mont.- The Battlin' Bears were unable to overcome a late Argos run as they fell at home 89-86 on Saturday.

Davien Harris-Williams propelled the Argos to an early 10-4 run to begin the game with a pair of threes. Luca Brooks would respond with a pair of three-pointers of his own to drive Rocky to a 10-2 run in response. Neither team extended a lead larger than five for the remainder of the half. Jake Olsen would get a layup to fall inside a minute to go in the half to give Providence a three-point lead, but active Battlin' Bear defense inside of 30 seconds to go would result in consecutive Argo turnovers that gave Rocky breakaway layups as the Battlin' Bears a one-point halftime lead.

Kael Robinson and Luca Brooks would combine for a 9-0 run out of the gate in the second half to give Rocky their largest lead of the day at 10. The Rocky men would have their offensive momentum come to a screeching halt, going nearly six minutes of game time without a basket, opening the door for the Argos to put together a 15-0 run to grab the lead back. Elliott Brooks would break the cold spell with a three-pointer, followed by a steal and a fast break layup on the following possession to draw the game back tied at 58-58 inside of 10 minutes to go.

The next five minutes of play saw both teams trade baskets back and forth, with neither grabbing a lead larger than two. Saturday's slugfest featured 20 total lead changes overall. Rocky's offense would hit another dry spell, as three minutes without a basket helped the Argos to an 8-2 run that extended their lead to eight with three minutes remaining. The Rocky offense would make a push to round out the final minute of play, with a Jesse Owens three-pointer cutting the Argo lead to just three with 24 seconds left. The Argos shot 10-14 from the free throw line in the final two minutes to hold off the comeback efforts and avoid the season sweep.

Kael Robinson was the leading scorer for the Battlin' Bears, finishing with 26 points and seven rebounds. Luca Brooks added 17 points with five made three-pointers, Jesse Owens finished with 12 points and five assists, and Maxim Stephens added 10 points and 11 rebounds.

The Argos were led by a 28-point performance from Davien Harris-Williams.

The Rocky Men (11-13, 2-8 conf.) take on No. 11-ranked Montana Tech on Thursday evening in Butte.
