Rocky Men’s Basketball Falls to #10 Montana Tech 92-61

BUTTE, Mont.- A second-half run by the Orediggers proved to be the difference in what turned out to be a lopsided defeat for the Rocky men on Thursday evening.

Montana Tech grabbed the first wave of momentum on Thursday evening, jumping out to a 12-5 lead through the first five minutes of play. The Battlin' Bears struggled from the field to start, shooting just 5-16 through the first ten minutes of play. The Rocky men found their rhythm, rattling off a 12-2 run to grab their first lead at 27-26. After a frustrating start from deep for the Orediggers, the 10th-ranked team in the country caught fire from deep in the final four minutes of the half, going on a 20-5 run that included 5-6 shooting from the field and 4-4 shooting from three as Montana Tech grabbed a 46-33 lead going into halftime.

Kael Robinson and Jesse Owens combined for the first ten points for the Battlin' Bears in the second half as they cut their deficit back down to eight. Ultimately, an offensive explosion by Montana Tech that featured 12-15 shooting from the field and 6-8 shooting from three during a six minute stretch extended a 26-point deficit that the Battlin' Bears would not recover from.

Kael Robinson led the way for Rocky with 26 points and eight rebounds. Luca Brooks and Jesse Owens each added 10 points in the loss.

The Orediggers were led by 18 points by Asa Williams. 11 different Orediggers scored on Thursday.

The Rocky Men (11-14, 2-9 conf.) head to Havre to take on MSU-Northern on Saturday afternoon.
